چکیده

With the announcement of Sony’s new E-Ink-based Reader only days old, electronic books have been floating around the media again. Most reporters seem to agree that previous e-book readers have failed due to eye strain and rights management issues, but my personal problemwith such devices is that not only do they cost $350, I can’t use them to read the ¢25 used paperbacks that I already own. Large scale projects such as Carnegie Mellon University’s Informedia project and Project Gutenberg have overcome similar issues by distribution of page-scanning, typing, and error-correcting tasks among thousands of workers, but this is a poor solution for the average reader who might want to digitize an existing collection of hundreds or thousands of books singlehandedly.

People Tracking and Segmentation Using Efficient Shape Sequences Matching

We design an effective shape prior embedded human silhouettes extraction algorithm. Human silhouette extraction is found challenging because of articulated structures, pose variations, and background clutters. Many segmentation algorithms, including the Min-Cut algorithm, meet difficulties in human silhouette extraction. We aim at improving the performance of the Min-Cut algorithm by embedding ...

A Comparison of Text and Shape Matching for Retrieval of Online 3D Models

Because of recent advances in graphics hardand software, both the production and use of 3D models are increasing at a rapid pace. As a result, a large number of 3D models have become available on the web, and new research is being done on 3D model retrieval methods. Query and retrieval can be done solely based on associated text, as in image retrieval, for example (e.g. Google Image Search [1] ...

Morphological Shape Context: Semi-locality and Robust Matching in Shape Recognition

We present a novel shape recognition method based on an algorithm to detect contrasted level lines for extraction, on Shape Context for encoding and on an a contrario approach for matching. The contributions naturally lead to a semi-local Shape Context. Results show that this method is able to work in contexts where Shape Context cannot, such as content-based video retrieval.

Fingerprint Matching using A Hybrid Shape and Orientation Descriptor

Minutiae-based methods have been used in many commercial fingerprint matching systems. Based primarily on a point pattern matching model, these methods rely heavily on the accuracy of minutiae extraction and the detection of landmarks like core and delta for pre-alignment. Spurious and missing minutiae can both introduce errors in minutiae correspondence. Equally problematic is the inability to...

Facial feature point extraction method based on combination of shape extraction and pattern matching

In this paper, we propose a method for fast and accurate extraction of feature points such as pupils, nostrils, mouth edges, and the like from dynamic images with the purpose of face recognition. Accuracy of face extraction with these feature points used as criteria greatly affects the capabilities of face recognition methods based on pattern matching. This processing must be performed rapidly,...
